News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their appearance will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
