Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
