Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Chief Executive Exits After Pivot Into Fried Chicken.

The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who indicated the United Kingdom might have reached maximum pizza demand while expanding the chain into fried chicken has been removed after conflicts with its governing body.

Executive Transition

Andrew Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in the top role, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's seeks a new leader.

The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for over 20 years, had sought to shift Britain's leading pizza food delivery firm towards chicken offerings, commenting earlier this month there was not “huge potential” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed poultry was the fastest-growing protein in the globe.

Board Tensions

Reports indicate that there was friction between Rennie and the governance team over his approach and direction, although Domino's official statement said he was departing “as a joint decision”.

New Brand Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's unveiled its poultry brand – which Rennie referred to as a “major strategic shift” for the organization – and is piloting it in 210 outlets in the North West region and the province.

While the company is still intending to launch it across its extensive network next year as scheduled, it views chicken products as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Leadership Statement

Bull, the company chair, stated: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to boost expansion and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are concentrating on finding the ideal CEO to oversee the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”

Market Challenges

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has 13 million customers in the British Isles, said sales fell by 1.5% in the Q3. In August, it warned that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it blamed reduced spending in the run-up to the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Competitors are also struggling. Pizza Hut disclosed the closing of dozens of outlets a recently, after the company behind its UK venues fell into administration.

Health Efforts

Adapting to consumer trends towards better nutrition, the company has introduced reduced-calorie products, such as its thin-crust line of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as vegan and wheat-free pizzas. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has over 2,100, while a individual has 909 calories.

Interim Management

The interim chief has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the betting firm a well-known operator. It is understood that she prefers not to occupy the chief executive role on a full-time basis.

She said: “The company has a multiple ongoing growth and operational projects that we will be dedicated to carrying out at speed.”

She said these involved further work on the organization's procurement system and menu innovation, and its customer retention initiative.

Domino's is also lacking a permanent chief financial officer until March 16, when Andrea joins from the beverage producer a well-known firm. Until then, Richard Snow is temporary CFO.
