Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted recurring failings from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
