He won the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Three-time NBA MVP Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter during an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

Jones came down on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly fell to the court grabbing his knee.

The star, who is leading the league season in rebounds and assists, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before suffering the setback.

He will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the extent of the issue.

"Instantly, Jokic realized there was a problem," commented Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Any player that suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as special as Jokic. We'll find out more on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust as a team. Of course, currently, I am focused about him personally and the letdown of experiencing a situation like that."
