Trump Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to White House

President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.

He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Call

The president said he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Response

Community members gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the media. “She was kind, caring and always willing to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Judicial Steps and Policy Changes

Officials have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The incident caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and halt granting visas to holders of travel documents.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit his relatives.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
